Hi-Vallee:
Restoring 1,400 Hectares
of Endemic Habitat.
A restoration initiative on Yued Noongar Country, focused on regenerating a nationally significant Kwongan heathland landscape and protecting one of Australia’s great biodiversity refuges.
About Hi-Vallee
The Hi-Vallee Restoration Project centres on one of Australia’s most botanically significant private conservation properties – a refuge of Kwongan heathland containing nearly 600 native plant species.
The project combines ecological science, careful restoration planning, and long-term landholder commitment to regenerate landscape function over time.
This is about more than planting trees – it is about restoring one of Australia’s most biodiverse ecosystems, protecting species found nowhere else on Earth, and regenerating a landscape of extraordinary ecological value on Yued Noongar Country.
Why this matters now
A rare and irreplaceable ecosystem
Hi-Vallee protects 400 hectares of remnant bushland that has escaped clearing for generations. Nearly 600 species thrive here, many of them keystone plants for ecosystem health. Kwongan heathland is one of the most species-rich ecosystems on Earth, yet also one of the most threatened. Once lost, it cannot be recreated.
Restoration guided by science
The project combines ecological science and careful restoration planning with ecological best practice:
- Careful site preparation — weed removal, soil conditioning, mapped planting zones.
- Local seed collection and propagation.
- Restoration trials using climate-resilient, locally appropriate species.
- Large-scale planting planned for 40,000 native trees and shrubs in 2026.
Hi-Vallee will also become a living research hub, hosting PhD research, field studies and long-term biodiversity monitoring to guide best practice restoration.

In partnership with the Hi-Vallee landholders, a shared priority guides this work: restoring this rare Kwongan ecosystem in ways that safeguard its extraordinary biodiversity and ensure its long-term resilience.
Project Status
The property includes 400 hectares of remnant heathland and 1,600 hectares designated for restoration. Early planning is already underway, including:
- Restoration trials starting this winter.
- Seed sourcing and propagation.
- Monitoring frameworks.
- Strong landholder commitment to long-term conservation.
