Cleaning up for a greener future with Earth Choice
Discover how Earth Choice, a leader in sustainable cleaning products, is leading the way in restoring Australia by funding native tree planting projects across the country in partnership with Carbon Positive Australia.
Earth Choice has been at the forefront of sustainable practices since 1981, pioneering green chemistry and responsible manufacturing long before sustainability was a ‘thing.’ Their products, made with plant-based ingredients, utilise recycled and recyclable packaging, and their operations are powered by solar energy at their Ferntree Gully, Victoria factory.
Earth Choice was looking to amplify their environmental efforts by partnering with an organisation that actively engages in tree-planting projects at both a regional and community level and was seeking a partnership that shared their values of environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Enter the Carbon Positive Australia x Earth Choice campaign.
Together, we are cleaning up for a greener future.
In collaboration with our organisation, Earth Choice will be funding the planting of 14,285 native trees right across Australia – our regional projects that not only capture carbon, but support biodiversity and create more native habitats, as well as our community and urban greening projects that offer a solution to the environmental, social, and economic challenges that urban areas face. This partnership aligns with Earth Choice’s dedication to sustainability and our expertise in environmental restoration – a powerful synergy for positive environmental impact.
During August 2024, the partnership was featured in Woolworths stores nationwide to highlight the support Earth Choice is bringing to our organisation and to raise brand awareness. This initiative encourages consumers to learn more about some of the most important restoration projects in Australia.
By planting 14,285 native trees, Earth Choice is significantly contributing to the removal of carbon from the atmosphere. It takes approximately 3-5 trees over 25 years to remove one tonne of carbon. Therefore, this initiative is expected to help remove between 2,857 to 4,761 tonnes of carbon over this period, depending on various factors such as tree growth, species, and planting density. Additionally, these trees will support biodiversity, protect rare species, improve water quality, and prevent soil erosion and salinity.
Earth Choice continues to lead in sustainable practices. Most of their products are sold in bottles made from 100% PCR PET plastic, produced on-site in their bottle molding facility. The business uses 1,546 tonnes of recycled PET plastic and 177 tonnes of recycled HDPE annually. They aim to shift their PCR HDPE bottles to 100% recycled content, an innovation that would be one of the first in Australia.
Furthermore, Earth Choice is constantly seeking ways to reduce their environmental impact. They are reviewing an upgrade to their solar system, which will increase their solar panel count by 10%, further reducing carbon emissions by around 1,500 tonnes each year.
Through this partnership, Earth Choice and Carbon Positive Australia are not only addressing carbon emissions but also fostering a healthier, more sustainable environment for future generations.
