We are an Australian registered charity that has been working on land restoration for over 20 years. To date, we’ve planted over 6 million trees, and we need your help to plant more. Here’s how:

What are you funding when you donate a $4 tree?
Trees, like people, come in many shapes and sizes and have different needs and requirements. Not all tree planting is created equal! When you fund trees with us, you are funding a process and a vision for full ecological restoration. Below is what your $4 funding supports.
species selection
To improve biodiversity (a primary indicator of environmental and thus human health), we plant many different native species for which pricing and availability can vary. We collect native seedlings from nearby remnant bushland so that what we plant is representative of the land prior to clearing. Planting monocultures (one or two species) may sequester carbon but it doesn’t benefit our native flora and fauna, nor does it increase biodiversity. We plant up to 79 different species per hectare at our planting sites.
our planting approach
We plant a combination of seeds and seedlings to ensure the best success and survival rates of the different species. To get the plants to seedling stage, we collect seeds in spring, cultivate them in a nursery over the summer and plant in winter. We don’t water our plants; instead we utilise seasonal rain to get them off to a good start.
preparation, planting & monitoring
When you plant a tree with Carbon Positive Australia, your $4 donation improves the health of landscapes and communities across the country. We plant trees in areas of Australia where we know they will have the greatest impact:
- On degraded land
- Within remote and regional communities
- In disinvested urban areas
At our carbon project sites we plant on degraded land; planting multiple species that increase biodiversity and tackle issues such as salinity. Without your support and our intervention the land will degrade further, and flora and fauna species will be impacted. Because of their highly degraded state, these sites may need more work to get them thriving. We invest in research and development to inform best practice planting methods. We physically monitor our sites to measure survival and growth rates, allowing us to respond rapidly to any potential issues which cannot be picked up using drone technology alone.
We protect our planting by ensuring adequate fire breaks, controlling weeds and pests, and we have legal arrangements in place to ensure permanence thus ensuring the longevity of the trees.
As well as our own projects we also fund and partner with community tree planting initiatives; choosing projects based on their impact. All of our community projects need to demonstrate co-benefits, such as the health and well being of local communities, biodiversity benefits and/or climate change mitigation.

We plant trees because we are committed to a carbon positive Australia, and to full ecological restoration. In particular all of our planting projects must align to:

We seek to deliver impacts and projects that deliver on this goal.
