Positive Action with Andrew Dallimore

"Taking action as an individual is empowering. It came to a point where I no longer wanted to feel helpless and worried. You know what though, together we are more powerful. All we have to do is take that first step."

Andrew is a Veterinarian who grew up in the country coastal region of South Australia where he spent a lot of his time outdoors; bush walking, camping, swimming, archery, mountain biking and curling up with a good book under a tree.

He has spent the most of his life doing youth work and caring for people with disabilities and came to the realisation that it was important to care for our country too.

How did your journey start with Carbon Positive Australia?

Effectively because I was feeling so disempowered about what was happening to Australia. I researched many organisations and found Carbon Positive Australia to be the most sincere, transparent, accountable and focussed organisation.

What are your motivations behind donating to Carbon Positive Australia?

They are an Australian member of 1% for the Planet, highly audited, and undergo their land restoration in a highly effective way. Each dollar spent accounts for a large amount of carbon fixed in Australia.

Why is taking action important to you?

Taking action as an individual is empowering. It came to a point where I no longer wanted to feel helpless and worried. You know what though, together we are more powerful. All we have to do is take that first step.

How do you take actionable steps in your everyday life to reduce your carbon footprint?

I used the One Small Step App (https://www.onesmallstepapp.com/) over the course of a couple of months. Since starting that, and with my support for Carbon Positive Australia, I can proudly say that I am now carbon positive and fix over 4000kg of carbon – more than I produce. What is more is I didn’t change my everyday behaviour much at all.

What would you say to those who are considering but have not yet started the journey in understanding their carbon footprint?

Life is still easy when you live sustainably, it just starts with making those small changes. The easiest way is to donate regularly to Carbon Positive Australia, download One Small Step, and slowly make your way toward a sustainable future knowing that you are becoming a better Australian (and global citizen) with every small step you take.
